When did you know you wanted to do hair?
I'm blaming it on that Barbie Beauty Center doll! Not to mention spending all my free time in the "loo" doing my 'do' and slapping on the war paint! Silly but all so true! I grew up going to the "Beauty Parlour" with my Mother, Aunt and Grandmother and after I graduated from ECU in Theatre Arts & Textiles; I studied and graduated from the Institute of Studio Makeup in Hollywood, CA. It was then I knew I wanted to take my Theatre training, Makeup and Hair Design education a step further - not to just work from behind the chair but also to pursue working on films when permitting. I don't have my Union card (yet) but one day perhaps (I live and work in a "right to work" state)....till then I'm grateful for the opportunities I've been allowed to work on Films, Theatre and Photo Shoots in the South East.

LONG story short:
While working at Saks Fifth Avenue in Charleston, SC - I would be 'released' so I could pursue working on films and videos doing hair and makeup. It was while working on a film I realized I wanted to be doing this MORE full time and for me, that meant working from behind the chair. So I balanced my books at Saks for the Cosmetic & Fragrance Department, gave notice and 2 weeks later I had an Independent film I worked on for 8 weeks. Shortly afterwards, I HAD to jump thru 'fiery poodle hoops' so I could LEGALLY work in a SC salon. I chose a PIVOT POINT School (Charleston Cosmetology Institute) to hone my skills and learn their 'methods'. Funny side note: I'm left handed yet I now cut with my right hand! Yes, yes, more than what you wanted to know and didn't ask! Perhaps TMI...perhaps not!

How would you describe your approach to doing hair color?
The hair is my canvas. I simply paint (light and or dark) hues to create a customized work of wearable art for each client from Organic choices to the Avante Garde! Joie De Vivre!

What inspires your creativity?
EVERYTHING! As I mentioned in my approach to hair color - I am inspired from the Organic to the Avante Garde! Nature, Art, Celebrity, History...those concepts all play a part in my mind set which allows me to create!

What advice would you give someone considering coloring their hair for the first time?
Naturally I would encourage each client to embrace color with WILD ABANDON! However, that is not always the case - each person I've worked with has a comfort level and I most definitely listen to what that client wants and desires. Sometimes it's not how much color one uses - but the placement of that color that can give someone a completely fresh look and perspective! Less is more albeit going into a 180 direction is quite exciting too if that client sitting in your chair gives you the carte blanche to delight and excite! Using a product such as Shades EQ Crystal Clear Gloss or the colors from the Shades collection is an excellent way to introduce COLOR to a timid color client since the product gradually fades away in 28 shampoos more or less.

Do you customize a hair color service for each & every client?
Absolutely! Everyone who sits in my chair gets a thorough consultation and evaluation of their hair. I educate everyone as to where they're at, where they're coming from and where they want to take their hair so they may know of their choices!

What celebrity always has great hair?
What celebrity doesn't?! Well there's a few I'm NOT going to mention! Hee hee hee hee hee!!! Ok seriously, I have so many favorite "talents" to choose from I'm going to list some in no particular order: Sandy Bullock, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anderson Cooper, Will Smith and soooo many others!

What's your approach to returning haircolor clients?
Referrals! Whenever I have a client in the chair I always remind them that "3" is the magic number! Send me 3 new referrals and receive your color or service of choice for FREE! I believe that you have to GIVE to receive. So on that note, I always have coupons available. In addition, I keep my overhead low as to keep my price points affordable along with giving excellent service - thus allowing me to retain my loyal clients as well as my hair hoppers! I love them all!
